Our Story

Founder Joe McGeoghan has always had a passion for all things mechanical. His career began in London, where he completed his City & Guilds qualification while working as an apprentice. Over the years, Joe honed his skills across main dealerships, bodyshops, and independent garages in both London and Surrey.

In 1991, Joe established JM (Motor) Engineering, and five years later relocated the business to Walton on the Hill. Starting in a small rented unit, his dedication and reputation for quality service led to the purchase of the current premises in 2002, the proud home of Chequers Lane Garage today.

Jamie joined Chequers Lane Garage since 2003 when he left school, learning his trade under the wing and guidance of his Dad Joe.

Over the years Joe continued to grow the business and invest in the latest equipment to stay up to date with the fast evolving vehicle technology whilst teaching Jamie every aspect of the business, learning and developing his skills as a technician, workshop foreman, service advisor and eventually business owner.

Jamie became Co-Director of Chequers Lane Garage Ltd in 2018, taking over the day to day running of the business and the reigns from Joe, continuing to grow the business to where we are today. Working in forefront and background to evolve and grow the business whilst upkeeping the reputation and high standards developed.

Chequers Lane Garage runs through Jamie’s blood, he has grown with the business and its customers, and still tries to remember every customers name and vehicle.

He is imensively proud of what he Dad has built over the years, and plans to keep the family run business flourishing for the next 30 years.

As the business grew, Joe and Jamie together built a team of skilled technicians who share his commitment to excellence. Together, they deliver MOT testing, servicing, and mechanical repairs to the highest standards, maintaining the friendly, honest approach that has earned the garage loyal customers from across the region.
